Hello there, I’m Markus – IBM Champion, Software Developer and problem-solver at heart.
I've been working in Intralogistics since 2015, solving some of the most interesting logistical puzzles across Europe. In 2021 I officially joined the IBM i family, and my mission has stayed the same no matter the platform: deliver the best possible outcomes for customers by modernizing systems that matter.
I strongly believe that if you put good energy and help into the world, good things come back. I’m also convinced that anyone has the power to change a system for the better.
That’s why this line from Mr. Robot has always stuck with me:
“At its core, beneath every choice, there’s either a one or a zero. You either do something or you don’t… If you stay, if you want to change the world, you become a yes. You become a one.”
I choose to be a one. Let’s change things for the better.

Steven Merel
Hi, I'm Steven! I've been working in IT since 2012, and since October 2024 I've found myself increasingly at home in the IBM i world.
My focus is where legacy systems meet modernization and AI. I work on making existing IBM i applications more transparent for developers and on helping old codebases become easier to understand. Python is usually my weapon of choice for AI-based analysis, while TypeScript keeps me busy when working on Visual Studio Code extensions.
I’m always happy to talk about legacy modernization, AI-assisted development, developer tools, and the strange beauty of old systems that still run the world.
One of my favorite quotes is from Grace Hopper:“The most dangerous phrase in the language is: ‘We’ve always done it this way.’”
That sentence is basically my professional warning label.
